Anything but mainstream.
"Soberano" is the name of the Bolívar format of the Edición Limitada 2018. With a length of 140 mm and a large ring gauge of 54, it makes a correspondingly powerful impression. This promises concentrated power and full Bolívar flavors with an enjoyment time of around one hour. The format is already known from the popular Partagás Series E No.2. The Romeo y Julieta Duke of the Edición Limitada of 2009 also had this format. The tobacco blend is characterized by a strong blend typical of Bolívar. As is customary for the Edición Limitada cigars, it consists exclusively of tobaccos aged for at least two years. The Bolívar Soberanos come in unvarnished boxes of 10, arranged in two layers in the box.
This Duke is anything but mainstream, but purest Bolívar with original force and class. Immediately, earthy spice and manifold citrus notes meet a hearty combination of chocolate and coffee notes, underpinned by amazingly ripe sweetness. At the same time, the cigar does not rumble, but convinces from the first puff with sheer power and aromatics. Those who do not like strong cigars should keep their hands off this Bolívar. Mushroomy flavors are also in play, and in the finale one succumbs to the sensory illusion of sipping espresso from huge cups to large-caliber chocolate gingerbread.
Oddly enough, the tested specimens of the first delivery did not seem youthful at all. Good draw and burn behavior as well as smoking times of well over two hours nourish the assumption that the processed tobaccos were allowed to mature longer than the two years mentioned in the insert before they were combined to this great Puro of the extra class.
All in all, the tobacco blend is quite reminiscent of that of the "Bolívar Super Coronas Edición Limitada 2014", only that the "Soberano" comes along much more intense. For their maturation applies what is generally true for strong cigars; one measures their maturity after decades.
