The Cohiba is the Rolls Royces among the Cubans. It was created in 1966 exclusively for Maximo Lider Fidel Castro. Its place of origin was a big secret for a long time, because nobody was supposed to know where it came from. Basically, Cohiba was for a long time the unofficial house brand of the state leadership, which liked to give it away to high-ranking state guests. Cohibas were not available through the Cuban cigar trade channels. It was not until 1982 that it was decided to put a limited contingent on the open market. It was at this time at the latest that the place of origin became really well-known among the aficionados of this world: the El Laguito manufactory in Havana. The former villa of a sugar baron is the cradle of this first post-revolutionary brand. It is located a good distance outside the city in the Cubanacán district, which is why its location was able to remain secret for so long. Here, only the very best tobaccos from the island become a Cohiba.
In 1992 the 1492 line was added, the series now includes the Siglo I - VI cigars, one cigar for each century since the discovery of Cuba by Columbus. The formats of the Siglo series are very similar in character and differ only in the development of the aromas. The series delights with its rather mild notes as well as the good draw and burn characteristics. Fine roasted notes and floral aromas delight the cigar connoisseur.
